Baseball used to be the biggest sport in America, but it hasn’t held that moniker for some time. Betting on baseball is bigger than ever right now, though (sorry Pete Rose), so here are a few details on the specifics of MLB betting:

  • Baseball is all about the pitcher, so instead of considering two teams like you would in most other sports, what you do for most MLB bets is consider the pitching matchup: does a team have their ace in, are they starting an unproven guy, is he a lefty against a left-handed heavy batting lineup, etc.
  • If you make a bet on a team that then changes their starting pitcher after your wager is made, it will become void.
  • While in the NBA and NFL it’s often called the ‘point spread’ the same type of markets are often referred to as the ‘run line’ when betting on baseball
